Hospitality Catering | Meet Gee
Gee’s day-to-day role is varied and sees her interacting with a wealth of different people; both colleagues and guests.
She’s been the sous chef at our Court Brasserie restaurant for more than three years now, working as part of our wonderful team. Her responsibilities include ordering ingredients, managing allergens, running the breakfast and dinner service, preparing food and writing the menus.
Hospitality Catering | Qualifications, Experience and Challenges
Gee’s journey in hospitality catering started by securing a job as a pot washer, before working her way up through the ranks.
With a strong passion for food and hands-on learning, she focused on learning on the job; this enthusiasm led to securing herself an NVQ level 2 commis chef qualification.
Hospitality catering is a fast-paced environment, and not without its challenges. Gee shared one experience of catering for a 250-cover wedding out of a hired kitchen. She and her team had to work closely together, remaining calm, cool and efficient, to ensure the success of the event. Despite it being challenging, it was an extremely rewarding experience.
Hospitality Catering | Opportunities and Advice
Gee chose her hospitality catering career at Stonehouse Court due to the beautiful canalside location of our hotel. She also liked our customer-comes-first attitude, and the potential we offered; she was keen to have the opportunity to try new things with her career.
When we asked Gee for any advice she would give to those considering a career in hospitality, she said: “Practice makes perfect, and your friends and family will love being guinea pigs!”
