The Hospitality Sector | Meet Maz

Maz Jurko is our hotel general manager here at Stonehouse Court. Having been an integral part of the team for more than ten years, his commendable leadership has increased our standing within the hospitality sector.

As well as helping to uphold our reputation, Maz’s role includes greeting our guests, briefing our team and ensuring that our operations run smoothly.

The hospitality sector - Maz

When off duty, Maz enjoys spending quality time with his family and brushing up on his cooking skills.

He said: “As you can imagine, there are no ‘typical days’ in hospitality. We’re often busy with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as large events and conferences. It’s good fun though!

“Hospitality is a fast-paced environment, but the best feeling is the satisfaction after service when everything goes well and the guests are happy. There’s no better feeling than that.”

Maz’s Journey to Becoming our Hotel General Manager

Drawn to the nature of the hospitality sector, Maz started his career at 18 years old as a kitchen porter for Celebrity Cruises, where he recognised hospitality as his passion.

After moving to the UK in 2005, he then gained experience as a barman, serving cocktails at a 4* hotel in Gloucestershire. After working his way up through the ranks at a sister hotel, Maz began working at a 5* Michelin hotel and restaurant to gain more experience, before joining us in 2012 as our assistant food and beverage manager.

After five years of hard work, Maz landed himself the position of our hotel general manager thanks to his experience, determination and skill.

The Hospitality Sector | Why Stonehouse Court?

Here at Stonehouse Court, we were interested in discovering the reasons why Maz chose to join our team. Among other reasons, Maz shared that: “When I first walked in, it felt like Stonehouse Court needed my help. So I helped.

“I have never before worked with such a dedicated and passionate team. We’ve made such progress throughout the years and I couldn’t be more proud.”

Over the course of his time with us, Maz helped to guide us through a particularly challenging time: He said, “There are so many special moments I could talk about, and working with my amazing team every day is very special for me. The biggest challenge for all of us was during the lockdown but I couldn’t be prouder of how we managed to overcome any difficulties.”

Future Plans and Advice

Maz and his team are pouring their efforts into the new rooms project going ahead at the end of the year, giving our wonderful building a well-deserved refresh.

When giving advice to others wanting to pursue a career in the hospitality sector, Maz said “You need to be passionate about the industry; otherwise, don’t do it.”

Maz describes our Cotswolds manor house hotel as a place focused on family, fun, and sustainability. If you feel that an environment like ours would be a good fit for you, take a look at our vacancies.
